My final presentation for the class is in the Pages and Files section:

The Final Smart board powerpoint Presentation.mht

Hey Roderick,
I thought your presentation was well put together; however, it was very difficult to read the text with the pictures in the background. This may be problematic for students with visual disabilities and/or students with learning disabilities. The information about Smartboards was very helpful because I have never used this technology.
Nice job!
Cynthia

Roderick,
I must agree with Cynthia about the text and the pictures in your presentation. I do think you demonstrated that you have researched your topic well and provided great information. - Tina Ransey

Last week, I selected three innovations that could have a positive impact on my field of work. This week, I evaluated each of these innovations by finding and reviewing studies that support its value and effectiveness. I used this information to help me determine which innovation could provide the most benefits for my industry. The innovation that I chose to discuss is the use of Smart Boards in the 21st century classroom.

The Smart Board is an interactive whiteboard that uses touch detection for user input – e.g. scrolling, right mouse-click – in the same way normal PC input devices, such as a mouse or keyboard, detect input. A projector is used to display a computer's video output on the interactive whiteboard, which then acts as a large touch screen. The Smart Board interactive whiteboard typically comes with four pens, which use digital ink and replace traditional whiteboard markers. Most Smart Board interactive whiteboards register only one touch at a time however, in June 2009; Smart Technologies introduced their first dual-touch interactive whiteboard. The dual-touch Smart Board interactive whiteboard accepts two simultaneous touches; however, the touches only register on two separate sides of the interactive whiteboard surface (Wikipedia, 2011). I love how easy it is to create materials with my students, and go back later to add or make changes as our learning progresses. It is easy to add sound and video to create multimedia projects. Since the Smart board is hooked up to my computer and a projector, we use the Smart board to view and interact with websites all the time. There are tons of websites that list other great websites that work well with the Smart board, so I didn’t have to start from scratch.

I chose this innovation because I felt like it was the best innovation for helping my students to be successful. The 21st century students have grown up with technology and they love using it. The other two innovations were great but they don’t even compare to adding a Smart Board to your classroom. I have students that never participated or talked at all in my health class. Once I received a Smart Board those students became different people. They love going up to the board and writing their answers on it. They love how we can watch videos and just do things that we could never do on a regular white board.

Not only are Smart Board being added to classrooms all across America they are also being used. In the article “Interactive Whiteboards” it states that although it took nearly 5 years for everyone in the district to start using email, interactive whiteboards have been implemented pretty effectively in a single year. It seems that even the doubters are converted, almost immediately, once they see a whiteboard in use in an elementary classroom. The technology does so many things and works so well that it seems to sell itself (Doe, C. 2010).

Hey Roderick,
I didn't see your final slide with your conclusion. Did I just overlook it or have you not completed it at this time?
Cheers,
